Heritage Tours & Safaris has been awarded with yet another exciting Safari concession, Isimangaliso Western Shores Day and Night Drive Safaris. This means for the first time that the public can enter the Western Shores of Isimangaliso Wetlands Park, this side of the park offers one an opportunity to witness the 85 Elephants that are residant in the area, Leopards that roam the area, huge amounts of Hippo that wallow in the various pans in the area as well as Giraffe that have been recently introduced into the area.
The Western Shores can only be described as amazing, with its dense bush, open grass plains and many vantage points allowing one to experience an African bush like never before. Its counter part the Eastern Shores with the added value of being able to see and swim at Cape Vidal is more commercialised and a top destination for South African travellers it is the Western Shores that one has to experience should one be in the vacinity of St Lucia and want to experience the real bush feeling.
Night Drives depart at 7 or 8 pm for a durantion of 3 hours and splendid sightings have been recorded so far with 6 drives and 4 Leopards witnessed.
Ocean Experience Whale Watching, Isimangaliso Wetlands Park allows one to travel out into the deep blue Indian Ocean, we go insearch of the mighty Humpback Whales during June to the end of November, this migration takes place annually and sightings are guaranteed, this two hour outing will get you as close as 50 meters to the largest marine mammals in the world. Please note that this outing is a surf launch and weather dependant. Ocean Experience is fortunate in having the largest vessel in the area thus offering ample vantage points for impressive photographs or video footage.
Shoreline Boat & Walking Safaris, Isimangaliso Wetlands Park, join us on a 2 hour photographic boat safari up the one of the largest estuarine systems in Africa. Our vessels have been custom built and offer ample space to all of our clients. The vessels smaller in size with a maximum carrying capacity of 14 passengers per vessel offers you better interaction with the skipper/ranger, our shallow draft also allows us to venture closer to spectacular sightings without damaging any marine organisms. The St Lucia Estuary is home to large populations of Hippo, Nile Crocodile, Marine and Estuarine Bird species. Shoreline Boat & Walking Safaris also offers one the opportunity to disembark from the vessel and venture deep into the Isimangaliso Wetlands Park Bush, join your ranger as he will guide you on a 1 hour guided walking safari. This a first in the Isimangaliso Wetlands Park now gives you a closer and more interactive perspective on this World Heritage Site. Our Game Rangers are well qualified and have numerous years experience in the bush, these guided boat and walking safaris are offered daily.
