What makes the Hluhluwe Park so unique and amazing? For starters, it is the oldest proclaimed game reserve in Africa. Previously separated into two parks formerly known as the Hluhluwe Game Reserve and Umfolozi Game Reserve. These two parks were separated by a corridor road in the south. One was not able to enjoy both parks and you physically had to drive out and into two separate gates.
This is fortunately a thing of the past and today one may enjoy both sides of the park by entering either of the gates.
When it comes to history the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park is world-renowned for its Save the Rhino campaign in the 60s when less than 100 Rhinos roamed the planet. All techniques developed in the translocation of wildlife occurred within the park and these techniques are still practiced to date.
King Shaka himself made use of the lower Umfolozi as his personal hunting grounds.
This park remains a true gem and one that just has to be visited while in KwaZulu Natal.

Frequently Asked Questions
If you love being outdoors and the wildlife then this park without a doubt offers it all. Not only could you witness the African big 5 but also Cheetah and Wild Dogs to only mention the larger predator types of animals.
Heritage Tours & Safaris offers Big 5 Safaris into both sides of the Hluhluwe/Imfolozi Park, however, due to the Imfolozi side being larger, quieter, and more often than not more advantages with wildlife sightings more safaris are conducted into this side.
The Hluhluwe side is a lot busier, and with denser bush, we prefer the Imfolozi side of the park for safaris.
